We are beginning to move into more advanced techniques, so make sure you take your time learning and understanding the techniques we will cover from now on.
I've said it before, ALWAYS keep your saber between yourself and your opponent. We are about to take that concept to a whole new level.
Before we get to far - understand this. Poke is NOT a move. It is NOT a technique. It is a Playstyle; A mindset.
Instead of frantically trying to keep your saber roughly between you and your opponent to avoid damage, we are going to purposely aim our saber into our target by turning the mouse, and keep it there for the duration of the attack by matching the speed of the swing with the speed of our turn. This drastically increases the amount of damage that is possible to deal with one swing.
It is important to note that the D swing is the easiest to learn with because of its range and simple animation, but it is by no means the only way to poke. Poke is less of a move than it is a mindset. Your saber damages for the entire swing. Use all of that damage by keeping your saber in your enemy.
I encourage all of my students to pause here, and study each individual swing ( W WD SD SA A AW W ) and how each one positions the saber in relation to their body. Use this knowledge to learn how to adjust your position to deal the most damage with every swing.
DRILL
Practice your poke on a non moving object first, such as a post or a corner of a wall- the smaller the better, to perfect your aim. Keep practicing on a static target until you can consistently keep your lightsaber in the target for the duration of your swing.
I will give a demonstration, first on a non moving target, then on another player.
