When fighting against yellow stance, it is important to keep in mind that your opponent has the advantage. Yellow is significantly faster, and not much less damaging than red. The only tool you have in defeating yellow users is the fact that red still is more powerful.
Let me explain quickly the difference between Damage and Power. Damage.. well its pretty straight forward: how much damage attacks do. Power means something different- How much strength is behind the swing, and therefore how much blocking and parrying capabilities the stance has. I will get into blocking and parrying later on in some more advanced techniques, but just understand that you will be able to break through the defenses of your yellow using opponent.
So, in order to effectively fight yellow, you need to be passive. Yellow is too fast to be rushing in with red trying to score a hit- you will end up dead if the person on the other side of the yellow stance knows anything about fighting. Instead, what you need to do is understand exactly how and when your combos do damage, and ONLY be near the yellow user at those times. When your swing is not in the Hit zone and Followthorough, you should be jumping, rolling, or running away.
It is a bit more difficult to time your swings against yellow because of its speed, and the fact that yellow can chain together a significantly higher amount of swings than red can.
ALWAYS keep your saber between yourself and your opponent.
This concept will help you in fighting against anything in any stance. Your saber is your sword and your sheild. Your aimer has nothing to do with the damage your saber will do. While training saber, I find it useful to completely disable the crosshair. (I believe the command is cg_drawcrosshair 0, but i will double check later)
DRILL
With your saber up this time, have your training partner attack you with yellow stance. Bump your character into your partner's at least 20 times and survive. This will help you learn the timing of attacking yellow.
I will give a demonstration of a Red vs Yellow fight so you can get a general idea of what you should be trying to do.
